East Providence Workforce Program
Jumpstart your career with the East Providence Workforce Program. Completely FREE for low-to-moderate income East Providence residents and workers. Coursework is geared towards improving career advancement by cultivating industry-specific, computer, and leadership skills.
The City of East Providence Workforce Training Program offers 11 courses through Roger Williams University’s Extension School. The career-oriented programming offers training in Microsoft Office, social media marketing, accounting and bookkeeping, project management, and medical office specialist.
Courses in the East Providence Workforce Program will be free to eligible East Providence residents and workers. Participants must be low-to-moderate income (up to 100% AMI), and either live in East Providence OR work in East Providence. Applicants will be vetted for income and residence/workplace requirements through the enrollment process.

Accounting & Bookkeeping
COHORT 2 -8/28/2025 - 1/22/2026 TUE & THURS
This course is designed to provide students with a foundation of accounting and bookkeeping principles to obtain an entry-level position in this field. This course will address a broad range of manual and computerized accounting and bookkeeping functions (QuickBooks and Excel) including double-entry accounting, ledgers, journals, adjusting and closing entries, trial balance, basic financial statements, cash and banking procedures, payroll, and accounts payable and receivables.
Microsoft Office Specialist
Asynchronous Learning | In person 6-8:30 on specified day
COHORT 3 -Word Focus - 1/2/2025-2/6/2025 THURSDAY
Those who complete this course will be prepared to take the Microsoft Office Specialist Word Exam. Successful completion of the certification exam provides a competitive advantage by validating the knowledge and skillsets for individuals who may be seeking employment or further job opportunities
COHORT 4 - Power Point Focus - 4/8/2025-5/13/2025 TUESDAY
Those who complete this course will have reviewed all the exam objectives to prepare for: Microsoft PowerPoint Exam. Successful completion of the certification exam provides a competitive advantage by validating the knowledge and skill sets for individuals who may be seeking employment or further job opportunities in their careers.
Medical Office Specialist
COHORT 1: 1/28/2025 - 7/10/2025 - TUE & THURS
120 in-person learning hours
The Medical Office Specialist Program provides students with foundational knowledge in learning administrative and medical procedures including anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, office work, interacting with and assisting patients, and financial responsibilities. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, a student will have the ability to perform administrative duties, display professionalism, apply effective communication skills, demonstrate computer awareness and apply legal, ethical and confidentiality concepts.
Project Management
This course will introduce tools and templates that are used to successfully manage a project through the five phases of a project as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI). We will make the complex discipline of project management easy to understand and master. Project Management will be grouped into five phases or processes: Defining project goals; Planning the work; Leading the team; Monitoring progress; and Completing the project.

Social Media
A self-paced 5 module cohort, available online virtually for 1 year until August 1, 2025
This 15-hour self-paced course provides a concise yet comprehensive introduction to social media marketing. It is designed for individuals and businesses looking to harness the power of social media platforms to build brand awareness, engage with customers, and drive business growth. The course covers essential topics such as platform selection, content strategy, community engagement, social media advertising, introduction to analytics and content creation basics.
