Statement of Understanding

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (“Yellow Ribbon Program”) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows the University to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to fund tuition expenses and fees that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The University can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and the VA will match the same amount as the University.

I understand that the VA formally establishes eligibility for the Yellow Ribbon Program, and that this request for participation is contingent upon the VA’s approval for such benefits. I believe that I am eligible for Yellow Ribbon Program benefits based on one of the following qualifications set forth by the VA:

  • I served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 36 months; or
  • I was honorably discharged from active duty for a service-related disability and I served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; or
  • I am a dependent eligible for the Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

I affirm that I have been accepted and choose to enroll as a full-time undergraduate day student at the University, and I understand that I must apply to the VA for a Certificate of Eligibility to qualify for Yellow Ribbon Program benefits. I understand that failure to submit a timely Certificate of Eligibility may result in my removal from the Yellow Ribbon Program participation list.

I acknowledge that Yellow Ribbon Program funds are distributed to qualified students on a first-come, first-served basis, measured from the date this application is received by the office listed above. I understand that submitting this form does not guarantee funding for University courses through the Yellow Ribbon Program. I also understand that the University is not required to make Yellow  Ribbon Program contributions if I do not maintain satisfactory progress, conduct, and attendance or comply with other University policies and requirements, or if the University does not renew the Yellow Ribbon Program agreement with the VA for the following academic year.
