PEACE Maker - Mentees

Calling all PEACE Makers!

Every Incoming freshman and first-year transfer students are paired with a 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Peer Mentor.  These peer mentors are here to show you the ropes!  They help with college adjustment, navigating campus resources and provide guidance and support. 

If you are interested in having a more involved mentoring experience that fosters community building and social justice engagement, you can apply to participate in the PEACE Program.

Why should I be part of the PEACE Program?

A key to having a successful first year experience is finding your community! The PEACE Program offers many benefits and opportunities to freshman and first-year transfer students.  Some of these include:

  • One-on-one peer mentoring from an experienced PEACE Keeper mentor who will assist with college adjustment, help you navigate the wealth of resources on campus, and provide guidance and support throughout your first year.
  • Participate in a community of fellow mentees in the program that will help make your transition from home to college successful and fun.
  • Attend events and outings with the PEACE Program family.
  • Participate in intercultural learning and engage in social justice endeavors on campus.

Program Requirements

Students accepted into the PEACE Program will participate in a variety of activities and projects throughout the year at Roger.  These include:

  • PEACE Maker Orientation: Once you're officially moved in, PEACE Makers will participate in an exciting orientation where you will have the chance to meet your fellow mentees and your assigned mentor.  Orientation will be filled with exciting activities designed to help you feel a strong sense of community and belonging in the PEACE Program family.  
  • Monthly Social Justice Seminar: Mentees will be engaged in active group discussions, activities and exercises to build a strong foundation in social justice.  Seminars will be facilitated by the program director, PEACE mentors, and guest speakers. Fall schedule has been updated***
  • Monthly Community Gathering: Mentors and mentees will gather to build strong community connections and participate in a variety of activities, such as shared meals, field trips and movie nights.
  • Social Justice Group Project: Mentees will be engaged in a group-based social justice project with their assigned mentors.  During the first semester, each mentee group will have ample opportunities to explore and identify their interests or passions in a social justice cause or topic.  During the second semester, mentee groups will work together on their identified topic and develop their social justice projects.  Projects will be presented at the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Social Justice Student Showcase at the end of the year. 
  • Attending two campus programs or events per semester centering on social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Maintaining regular contact with your assigned PEACE Keeper mentor

To maintain your status in the program, you must attend the PEACE Maker Orientation and ALL scheduled meetings and complete the requirements of campus program/events attendance and Social Justice Group Project.
