Stephen White, AIA, is Dean and Professor of Architecture at the Roger Williams University Cummings School of Architecture. There he led with colleagues the establishment in 1997 of the school in this form, as well as graduate programs in Architecture, Preservation Practices, and graduate certificates in Preservation Practices and Urban and Regional Planning. He has co-founded with colleagues several initiatives and centers linking the university, professions and community including the Career Investment Program, the Teaching Firm in Residence, the Samsung Design Studio, university-wide cloud computing (rCloud), the Women’s Leadership Network, Community Partnerships Center, Center for Macro Projects and Diplomacy, 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Arboretum, and the American Institute of Architects Rhode Island’s chapter space in Providence. He is a recipient of a 2018 AIA/ACSA Practice + Leadership Award, and a Roger Williams University Excellence in Teaching Award.

White has worked in architecture offices of Stein Doshi and Bhalla, New Delhi, Architectenburo Hertzberger and Greiner van Goor, Amsterdam, HOK London, in San Francisco and St. Louis. His book Building in the Garden: The Architecture of Joseph Allen Stein in India and California (Oxford University Press: 1993, 1994, 1998) was published in hardback and paperback editions, and followed by a USIS Lecture and Exhibition Tour of India, and numerous lectures in the US and Great Britain. He has received grants from the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the US Information Service, the 1772 Foundation, and a Roger Williams University President’s Inclusive Excellence Grant. White has served as President of AIA Rhode Island, ACSA Northeast Regional Director, and on the NCARB Education Committee. He has taught and was educated at Washington University in St. Louis, where he received the AIA Medal and Widmann Prize in Architecture.

Stephen White is serving in 2021-2023 as President of the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts.
